Doing life with women has been something I had to step far outside my comfort zone to achieve.  I have had very few trustworthy women in my life and when I would hear someone say that women need other women, I thought that was absurd.  In all fairness, I thought it was a little absurd that anyone needed anyone other than Jesus and a dog.  It was very logical that between Jesus never leaving me or forsaking me and a dog being man’s best friend that all the major bases were covered.  It took me a long time to grasp that we are created for relationships and that it is a big part of God’s divine plan for life. Once I figured that out, it took me quite a bit longer to figure out how to like it.

Doing life with women has been a major hurdle, but it was such a blessing to spend this evening with a group of women from my church.  A “life group” is a new concept to me. In the past, we had women’s ministry, or WMU and all the ladies were invited to attend the once a month meeting.  There would be great things happening at those meetings too, the women would come together to be the hands and feet of Christ in their community.

Life groups are a little different.  There is more than one group, the attendance goal is usually about 10-12 then it’s time to consider adding another group.  So, our church has multiple life groups and we meet together once a week in the home of someone from the group.  I really like the idea of the smaller groups spending time worshiping and learning together.  It reminds me of the twelve disciples, they really did life together.  I am enjoying getting to know these ladies on a more personal basis.

Tonight, I looked around the room and thought about what I know about each of the women in attendance.  I realized that I was sitting in a room full of women who have braved some serious storms in life.  Some wilderness experiences that I can’t imagine walking through.  But they all had one thing in common.  They came out the other side. They are pushing forward towards the prize, they are running their race well.  My life group is made up of some powerhouse women that have extensive experience in the power of prayer, spiritual warfare, and how to stand firm in Christ.  Those are the kinds of women I want to do life with.  They love the Lord, they walk a Spirit-led life, they fight the good fight to further the Kingdom and I am thankful that God brought them into my life.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching.  Hebrews 10:24-25
